It seems from comments posted on the Guardian story...
http://www.warringtonguardian.co.uk/display.var.1164855.0.exclusive_village_school_to_be_bulldozed.php
that most people are in favour of the school being bulldozed. It's a hard one, on one hand you have an old school, which people want saved, but then a brand new modern school would surely be best for everyone?? |

Agree. Hopefully the old, stick their heads in the sand, losers will go away now.
This will benefit the pupils.
Quite what makes all the protestors believe the views of respected professionals should be disregarded in favour old old school sentimentalism, I'm not so sure
Bulldoze them with the building |

Obviously this individual is lacking in education himself. If this is the type of person who supports this scheme there really is no hope for the children. |

I’m guessing that both Keith and Guardian are educated adults however both seem to have not been taught how to show basic respect for another persons point of view. Failure to hold down a reasoned debate without resorting to petty name calling and bickering shows that the education system has failed to implant real life values. Reading this debate in the paper and on other forums, I can help but wonder if the point has been missed where the quality of the education is being directly related to the bricks and mortar of the building.

I'm Stephen one of the administrators.
One of the posts in this forum has been reported as unacceptable by a reader.
I don't really want to remove comments as they are all part of the debate and I'm sure the offensive comments weren't meant seriously.
However, I would ask all posters to think before they write, and try and avoid unecassary offence, on what is obviously an emotive issue. |

I have to admit that I've not followed this debate too closely but it seems to me that the arguments that the building is not suitable for the education of the children is simply being used an excuse to demolish it and the real reason is that the Council will get funding for a new building. I hope I'm wrong but I also get the impression that certain councillors wish to impose their 'authority' rather than take into consideration those with different views.
To be fair I've never visited the school so I don't know what state it is in but it looks to be sound enough on the outside. There are several other similar type of school buildings in Warrington, are these to be demolished too ?
If it turns out that the school is being demolished simply because it's easier to get Government funding for a new building than refurbish an existing one then there's something wrong with the system. Perhaps the question to ask them would they still be as keen to demolish it if there was only Government money available for refurbishment. |
